This is by far one of my favorite family vacations we’ve taken yet! In fact, we are already planning next year’s camping trip to Door County, WI.
I compiled all of our images just taken on film from our Door County camping vacation to create this post. I considered adding in the iPhone pics as well but wanted to keep it simple. This post is for you to get a look into our lives. But mainly this post is just for me to have a little spot to document our little adventures together as a family. This way I can easily look back on these super fond memories all in one spot.
The big deal about camping at Door County for us is that Robert and his family grew up going camping there EVERY summer! (And it’s important you should know his family already worked at a camp all year round…so their vacation from the camp was to go elsewhere to camp haha.) Needless to say, this year’s vacation was so nostalgic for Robert. I think he felt like he was reliving his childhood all over again. He knew all the best places to go and excursions to do. Plus we even found some new great spots we think we’ll add to the tradition such as Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant with live grazing goats on the roof and antique shopping in Cedarburg, WI before getting to Door County.
As you look through the images, you will see my parents joined us as well. Having them come along was a blast! We were so thankful they joined us. I know they definitely enjoyed not just the vacation but having some extra Margie time too. 🙂
Another reason this vacation was so enjoyable is that we truly love camping! A couple of years ago we purchased a pickup truck as our second vehicle. We intentionally purchased the pickup truck to also be used as a means to camp and travel. (#trucklife) Robert built a platform in the bed of the truck and put a mattress on top of it. He also included storage underneath for all of our camping gear. This truck/camping setup has worked out wonderfully over the last few years! It makes it convenient for traveling and setting up. Plus it’s super comfy compared to tent camping…not that I have anything against tent camping. Taking the truck for this camping trip was the icing on the cake. We as a little family enjoyed this unplugged, nature-immersed vacation. From campfire meals, hiking/biking to get around, lake days, some local shopping or just chilling in a hammock under the trees, our days were well spent.
The simple life is truly underrated. I really think this Door County camping vacation will become a tradition. We already have next year’s campsite reserved. 🙂 Enjoy a snippet of our little truck camping vacation this past September.
