As a senior photographer here in East Tennessee, one of my favorite parts of this job is getting to photograph the people who mean so much to me. That’s exactly what made Joel’s senior session so special.
The Hess family has become incredibly dear to my heart. Joel has been part of our church’s youth group where my husband and I have had the privilege of serving for almost a decade. Which also means I’ve watched him grow from a kid into a high school graduate. (I’m still trying to figure out how that happened so fast!)
Joel’s mom has been a wonderful friend and mentor through Bible studies, youth events, and countless conversations. I’ve also had the honor of photographing so many milestones for their family. From his sister’s engagement and wedding to both of his older brothers’ high school and college senior sessions. Photographing Joel’s senior portraits felt like another special chapter in a story I’ve been so thankful to be a part of.
As the youngest of four, Joel has officially finished his homeschool high school journey. It was such a joy to celebrate this milestone with him. Like many senior guys, neither Joel nor his mom wanted anything elaborate. We kept it simple and relaxed, focusing on those timeless and classic shots.
We started at a weathered old barn with just the right amount of rustic charm before making our way to a peaceful pond nearby. The natural surroundings fit Joel perfectly. Joel has such an exciting personality that it makes it so fun to be around him. He is easy going, down to earth, and the type of person that doesn’t need to be the loudest in the room to make everyone laugh!
Because I’ve known Joel for so many years, the entire session felt effortless. It was short, sweet, and captured exactly who he is as he steps into this exciting new season of life.
