This Crossville in-home lifestyle newborn session with the Allen family beautifully captured the love, tenderness, and excitement of welcoming baby Turner into their family.

Kristy reached out to me just a few weeks after welcoming baby Turner. While most families book their newborn session during pregnancy, she already knew she wanted a little time to settle into this new season before documenting it. Which I completely understood! During our design call, she expressed how important having this time properly documented was to them. After waiting so long for Turner, these memories meant everything to them. IVF had been part of Kristy and Derek’s story, and there were many moments when they wondered if this day would ever come. Now, holding their long-awaited little boy in their arms, everything felt wonderfully surreal. 

When I arrived, I was enthusiastically greeted by Banks, their lovable golden retriever and true “firstborn”. I think he was pretty excited to show off his new baby brother! After Derek tucked away my shoes so Banks wouldn’t claim them as his newest toys, he introduced me to baby Turner. He was just finishing up a snack before his big debut. (Priorities, you know.)  He immediately stole my heart! Even though I was photographing him at about 5 weeks old, he was still itty bitty and undeniably a newborn. I immediately fell in love with his wispy blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes. His parents also pointed out the adorable little mohawk he had growing in. Safe to say he was already rocking his own signature hairstyle!

Turner’s nursery was absolutely darling. Beautiful wallpaper and soft window light made it feel warm and inviting. (Can I just say…I’m fully on board with wallpaper making a comeback. Give me pretty wallpaper and good window light, and I’m one happy photographer.) I kept the family close to that window throughout much of the session. The natural light created timeless, cozy images and highlighted every tiny newborn detail. Since Turner was their firstborn, the session felt calm and unhurried. We savored every little snuggle. Turner was SO content the whole time! Banks happily joined us for a few photos in the nursery, where Mom and Dad cleverly hid treats beneath Turner to convince Banks to sit still for a few precious seconds. It worked perfectly and made for some of my favorite moments from the session. 

After documenting the sweet snuggles in the nursery, we moved to the living room where beautiful afternoon light filled the space. We then ended outside in their backyard for a few final family portraits, which of course was Banks favorite part since he got to run around!
