A sweet and playful In Home Family & Maternity Spring Session with an adorable Knoxville family

As a lifestyle family photographer in Knoxville, it’s always such an honor to be welcomed into a family’s home and asked to document the everyday life that is lived within those walls. The Mitchell family made that privilege feel especially meaningful. 

From the moment I arrived, I felt completely welcomed. Blaire had such a warm presence. It was immediately obvious where Wells gets his bright, joyful smile – his momma! As a family photographer, one of my favorite things is when families trust the process and simply focus on being together. The Mitchells did exactly that through the way they naturally interacted and loved on each other effortlessly. It was obvious how close they were as a family, and that made photographing them so easy! 

The Mitchell family were an open book. No putting on a show, no fussiness, just genuine joy in being together. It also helped that Wells was the goofiest of toddlers in the cutest way possible! His dad certainly encouraged the fun too, with dinosaur roars, races through the house, and plenty of tickle fights. They held the perfect balance of silliness and tenderness with each other.  

We built their spring session around the things they already love doing together. We started with snacks (always a great way to make friends with a toddler), pulled out the watercolor paints, and ended the evening with bubbles outside and time spent on the front stoop. Wells absolutely loves painting, and Blaire shared that she frames his little masterpieces around their home. I thought that was the sweetest idea! 

One especially meaningful part was documenting the Mitchells as they prepare to welcome a new baby. We made sure to capture Blaire’s adorable little baby bump and celebrate this exciting season for their family. Another memory Blaire wanted to preserve was the simple act of walking down the stairs with Wells. He’s still little enough to reach for his momma’s hand every time they go down together. She treasures that tiny hand in hers and is grateful for every opportunity to hold it, knowing there will come a day when he no longer reaches for hers quite so instinctively. Sometimes the moments that seem ordinary today become the memories we treasure most years from now.
