A Gen Z–Approved Guide for Knoxville Seniors

Jan 9, 2026

Your senior year is kind of a big deal. Like, “this is the last chapter before real adulthood” big. And your senior portraits? They should feel like you—not stiff, awkward, or like a copy-paste version of your friend’s session. If you’re getting senior photos taken in Knoxville, Tennessee, here’s how to prep like a pro and actually enjoy the experience (yes, that’s possible).

Enjoy this short Gen Z–approved guide for Knoxville senior photo sessions. 🙂

1. Plan Your Outfits with Intention (and a Little Strategy)

Outfits can make or break your confidence. Choose clothes that feel like you on your best day. Think comfortable, flattering, and something you’d actually wear—not something that’s been hanging in your closet since freshman year.

Pro tips:

  • Bring 2–3 outfits: one casual, one dressy, and one wildcard.
  • Stick with neutral or earthy tones that photograph well in Knoxville’s natural scenery.
  • Try everything on ahead of time (trust me—no surprises).

If you feel good in what you’re wearing, it’ll show in your photos. Science. Probably.

2. Make It Personal (This Is Where You Stand Out)

Want photos that don’t look like everyone else’s? Add your thing. That could be:

  • A sport you love
  • Your guitar, camera, Bible, or sketchbook
  • Your car, letterman jacket, or favorite sneakers

I love it when seniors bring items like the above to their session. It adds so much depth and story telling. I promise we’ll incorporate them seamlessly, not look like you’re just holding props.

This is your story—not a generic senior template. The more personal the session, the more unique your images will be.

3. Prep Your Mind (Not Just Your Hair)

Feeling awkward in front of the camera is normal. Literally everyone does. (literally everyone of my seniors say this and I love them for that haha).

The secret? You don’t need to “know how to pose.” In fact, I don’t want you to pose! I’m going to photograph you in an organic, authentic way. Think more of me directing you, not posing you.

What you can do:

  • Get a good night’s sleep
  • Drink water (hydrated skin = glow)
  • Show up a little early ready to have fun, not be perfect

Confidence isn’t about being serious—it’s about being relaxed.

4. Trust the Process (and Your Photographer)

Your photographer will guide you through posing, expressions, and where to stand so you don’t look like a NPC in a video game.

Trust me, I am the queen of effortless “posing”. I won’t tell you “OK be yourself.” I will seamless direct you ensuring you don’t look stiff and hollow but easy, breezy, and so candid! Be open, be yourself, and don’t stress the small stuff. Laughing? Totally allowed. Moving around? Encouraged.

5. Remember: These Photos Are for You

Yes, your parents will love them. Yes, they’ll end up on graduation announcements. But at the end of the day, these photos are a celebration of who you are right now. Own it.

And COMMUNICATE!

The biggest thing is to be open in communication with your photographer (hopefully me ;)) BEFORE the session about your vision, any insecurities you may have, and anything specific you’d really love out of your session. Do worry boo, I gotchu. Every senior receives a Design Call with me prior to their shoot for us to dream up your session. I’m all ears on this call and take lots of notes in order to execute your session.

Knoxville has the perfect mix of urban, nature, and golden-hour magic—combine that with a little prep and a lot of personality, and you’re set for a senior session that feels confident, fun, and completely you.
