An in-home maternity session with the cutest soon-to-be family of four on a warm summer evening
As the golden days of summer drew to a close, I had the honor of capturing a heartfelt in-home Knoxville maternity session for the Prutsman family, right before they became a family of four. I’ve known Jordan through the wedding industry. He and his wife, Beatrice, run an incredible videography business here in Knoxville called Foraged Films. They are not only insanely talented but also bring a distinct artistic vision to their work, creating stunning wedding and branding videos. If you or someone you know is planning a wedding or needs branding content, I can’t recommend them enough.
Knowing their creative brilliance, I felt privileged to photograph their beautiful, growing family. They wanted this session to celebrate and preserve memories of their little family of three before their newest addition arrived. These sentiments resonated deeply with me. I remember feeling those exact bittersweet emotions when my husband, Robert, and I were expecting Peter. The bond between the three of us, with just Margie at the time, was so special. While we were thrilled to grow our family, there’s a beauty in cherishing the dynamic of three before it transforms.
For this session, we decided their home would be the perfect backdrop. It didn’t require any extra preparation, and the comfort of being in their own space made everything feel natural and relaxed. This is the beauty of in-home lifestyle sessions — they’re slow, easy, and uniquely tailored to each family. There’s nothing staged or overly curated, just authentic moments unfolding in the spaces that mean the most.
We spent the entire session in their front yard, letting the evening light guide us. Beatrice and their daughter enjoyed one of their favorite outdoor pastimes — searching for clover flowers and weeds to pick as little gifts. She would excitedly present them to her mom, making such a sweet gesture. We spent the evening chasing the good light, as it’s often fleeting in the early summer evenings. The soft greens and blues, paired with the dappled sunlight, really captured the essence of a southern summer night. Plus, everyone was barefoot, which really added to the relaxed, summery vibe.
I was struck by how at ease they felt throughout the session. Being at home meant everything felt familiar and comfortable. These moments highlight what is so special about in-home lifestyle sessions. They aren’t about posed perfection, but rather about storytelling and capturing the rhythm of a family’s life. Looking at these images, I’m transported back to that warm evening. I can almost feel the grass beneath my feet and the Knoxville humidity on my skin. If these images evoke this much emotion for me, I can imagine that they are all the more special to the Prutsmans. Family photos are more than just pictures; they’re keepsakes, that hold memories like pieces of art.
I hope looking at these images brings you a bit of warmth during this cold winter season, and that you love them just as much as I do!
If you loved this in-home lifestyle session, be sure to check out another magical in-home maternity session, but this one has more of an editorial vibe!
