When it comes to in-home lifestyle family photos, especially newborn sessions here in Knoxville, I often hear a few common worries that hold people back from booking. Let me clear up those misconceptions and show you why an in-home session can be one of the most meaningful ways to capture your family’s story. 

“I have to have a perfectly decorated, magazine-worthy home.”

I totally get this concern – who doesn’t want their home to look like it’s been plucked from a design catalogue? But let’s take a step back and remember why we’re having these photos taken in the first place. 

Your session is not about your countertops, your cabinets, or how color-coordinated your living room is. It’s about you. These images are meant to showcase your love, connection, and the moments you share together. They’re not for Instagram likes or Pinterest boards (although they may end up there!) – they’re for you to treasure for years to come. 

Your home doesn’t need to look “perfect” because it already holds what matters most – your favorite people and your shared memories. 

“My home has to be spotless.”

Nope! Please don’t stress about cleaning for me or the session. Honestly, my own house is often not shy of hot mess city (thanks to my toddlers). 

I’m not photographing your clutter; I’m photographing your family. If there’s something distracting in the frame, I’ll move it. It’s part of my job to curate beautiful images while keeping them authentic. 

And here’s the thing: A good photographer knows how to work with angles and perspectives to naturally crop out or minimize distractions. Hire someone with a keen eye, and you can forget about the clutter. I’ve got you covered!

“My home needs to be flooded with natural light.”

While natural light is wonderful, it’s not a dealbreaker. You don’t need huge windows or bright, airy spaces. As a professional photographer, I’m trained to find the best light, even if it’s just a small patch of sunlight streaming through. 

If needed, I can bring artificial lighting to enhance darker spaces. The goal is to create a soft, natural look – no harsh or overly staged “studio vibes” here. Trust me, we can make magic with the light you have!

“I need to have a big home.”

The size of your home doesn’t matter one bit. In-home family sessions aren’t about square footage; they’re about the life lived inside those walls.

Whether your home is cozy or spacious, it’s the memories and love that make your images beautiful. Some of my favorite sessions have taken place in the simplest of spaces because the focus is always on the people, not the surroundings.
